The Iroquois Tribe

The name Iroquois means rattlesnake. The Iroquois called them selves Haudenosaunee which means “people building a long house.” They lived in New York and parts of Canada. The US government was based off the Iroquois Confederacy which consisted of five nations and was a democracy. The Iroquois ate beans, corn, and squash. They also hunted. The Iroquois lived in long houses. A long house was big enough to fit about three families. The long house is made of bark and poles.

Once upon a time, when foxes tails were strait and sleek, there was a red fox named Abhijit (which means victorious). He was the leader of a fox clan living in the Northeastern Woodland. In fact, his clan happened to live in the area we call Michigan today.
One day, he and some of his other clan mates were going out to scavenge for some food when Abhijit picked up the sent of some Iroquois in the area! He also smelled horses.
He knew that they left, about ten of them, three days ago, all on horseback. Each and every one had a musket! He knew that they would be hungry after coming back from a battle. Furthermore, they lived 200 miles away. If they saw the foxes, Abhijit and his clan would be toast.
“Halt!” Abhijit ordered his scavenging party. “I smell the men!” Abhijit said to his fellow’s. “I do to,” a few responded. “They will be passing through right here. We must move now!” he said.
As the seven foxes scampered through the under brush Abhijit noticed that the sent of the men was getting stronger very rapidly. See, if they stayed where they were, the scent would be getting stronger at an even pace. If they were going away from them, the scent would be getting weaker. But if they were getting closer to the men, the scent would be getting stronger very rapidly. This was bad. Abhijit and his clan were very peaceful and had never fought anyone before. But this time, it looked like they would have to.
Suddenly, a crack sounded! One of the foxes rolled over, dead. “Get in to the den!” Abhijit yelled. CRACK! CRACK! More gunshots. Another fox down. Suddenly, Abhijit got a great idea! “Whip them with your tails!” ordered Abhijit. They all did and it worked!
and said, “It worked and all but now my tail is all fluffy” Abhijit looked at his tail. It was also fluffy! He looked around and so was every one else’s! After days of trying to straiten their tails, they gave up and Abhijit decided to give foxes he honor of having the fluffiest tails.

AND THAT IS HOW THE FOXES GOT THE FLUFFIEST TAILS!!!
