The Iroquois Tribe
The name Iroquois means rattlesnake. The Iroquois called them selves Haudenosaunee which means “people building a long house.” They lived in New York and parts of Canada. The US government was based off the Iroquois Confederacy which consisted of five nations and was a democracy. The Iroquois ate beans, corn, and squash. They also hunted. The Iroquois lived in long houses. A long house was big enough to fit about three families. The long house is made of bark and poles.
